Mercedes C63 Custom Wide Arches 4 Door

Mercedes C63 4 door

What Car: 2013 Mercedes C63 4 door

The Lowdown:

This Mercedes C63 4 door was booked into the bodyshop recently to have some wide custom rear arches fabricated, fitted and sprayed. The owner Boon had seen the wide arch conversion we had recently completed on Jasons 2 door C63 and loved what we had done and thought it would look good on his 4 door. Boon’s C63 is the first to be fitted with our new 4 door kit which we have created from our 2 door kit. These kits are now available to purchase so if you are interested in ordering a one or would like us to convert your C63, get in touch here

The plan:

Suspension: Adjust the ride height to allow for the new bigger wheels.
Bodywork: Custom fabricated wide rear arches, fitted and sprayed Mercedes Diamond White paint.
Firstly Al temporary fixed the 2 door kit on to the body, he then cut into the arch kit to allow the rear doors to open, matching the rear door gaps. The gap between the arch and the panel in the door shut was then filled in with fibreglass matting and once it had dried it was then sanded back smooth using a gap gauge to make sure all the panel gaps were even.
Moulds were then made from these new modified fibreglass atches and a new 4 door kit was produced ready to be fitted to the car.
Al has cut the inner arch back to create clearance for the new wider alloys that have been bought for the car. He then sanded back some of the paint on the wing to allow the panel bond to adhere to the bare metal.
Next he applied a bead of panel bond and drilled and screwed the new arch extension to the wing.
A layer of fibre glass was applied over where the arch kit meets the existing panels and this was then sanded back flush and smooth.
Next up Kyle prepped and sprayed the brake callipers yellow and applied black AMG stickers.
Next up a layer of spray filler was sprayed on and sanded back for a smooth finish. The massive new rear alloys which you can see here next to the old one were then fitted and the car lowered to the deck. It then headed across to the garage to have the 4 wheels alignment treatment and the ride height tweaked using its adjustable shocks to get the stance just right. We then road tested the car a number of times to make sure there was no rubbing.
The C63 headed back across to the bodyshop where it was masked up and a layer of body filler was applied and sanded back to get the shape as perfect as possible. Next it was sprayed in 2 pack primer (fine coat) and a black guide coat to help reveal any imperfections. The swage lines were then masked up and the car was then sanded up to the tape, making sure all swage lines aligned correctly.
The C63 is in the booth getting masked up ready for paint. Kyle has mixed the 3 stage white peal paint and we are finally ready to spray this beast.
The cars has been baked and wheeled our the booth and the bumper and side skirts are getting sprayed and baked.
Al has fitted the bumpers and side skits and the car is back together and looking sweeet!
To finish things off nicely in the inner arch, where we cut into the original arch, we primed the bare metal and filled the gap between the panels with sealant to prevent crud getting in. We then re fitted the wing liners and custom cut and fit a section of rubber water seal to finish things off.
To finish the paint off Kyle has given the C63 the 3 stage flat and polish and it is now looking better than factory.
To finish things off the car headed over to the garage to have the 4 wheels alignment treatment and we look it for a quick test drive to make sure everything handled as it should.
After a final clean, polish and a quick photoshoot, it was ready for Boon to pick up. Head over here to see more shot of the final shoot.
