CUSTOM 1957 CHEVY BEL AIR

Chevy Bel Air 1957

MECHANICAL AND PAINT WORK

What Car: 1957 Chevy Bel Air

Under the Bonnet: 600 bhp Supercharged V8

Every so often a car comes into the shop that stops you in your tracks! This incredible custom 1957 Chevy Bel Air was one such car. Completely built from the ground up a few years back over in the States this Bel Air has so many custom tricks going on you can’t help but stand back in awe and take it all in.
The car has been booked in for quite a bit of mechanical and paintwork (see details to the right) so follow the progress here on our blog.

The Plan:

Mechanical Work: New half shafts rated to 1000 bhp as current drive shafts. Replace noisy vacuum pump.
New alternator.
Wheels and tyres: New wheels and tyres are to be confirmed.
Exterior: Rust treat roof, fresh paint on roof, interior and back pannel.
Kyle has removed the interior headlining and has begun to chop out the rot in the roof edges. The plan is to remove all the rotten metal and replace it with fresh metal on both sides.
The roof is double-skinned, so to get the rotten first skin off the spot welds had to be drilled out. The surface rust on the metal underneath was then cleaned up to enable us to weld in the fresh replacement metal.
Over at Curzon Fabrication, they are fabricating the new exhaust back boxes as the originals had become tired
The fresh metal has been welded in and cleaned up
With the metal finished Kyle blocked down a thin layer of filler, primed the car and then blocked that down also.
It was then ready for paint.
The Bel Air has had new American Racing wheels fitted and the suspension geometry dialed in.

To be continued………
